Time’s Up
Hollywood’s ‘Time’s Up’ campaign against abuse, sexism and sexual harassment gained a lot of attention this week at the Golden Globes – with actresses all wearing black on the red carpet to send a message – that time’s up on the mistreatment of women, and it will no longer be tolerated in silence.
On receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, Oprah Winfrey also made a pretty phenomenal speech which has left many calling for her to run for U.S. President in 2020.
‘Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. – For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak their truth to the power of men. But their time is up. Their time is UP.
A new day is on the horizon, and when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, and some pretty phenomenal men who listened… who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say MeToo again.’
– Oprah Winfrey
The Handmaid’s Tale and Big Little Lies were also recognised as Best Drama and Best Miniseries – fitting, as both examine abuse of power, inequality and mistreatment of women.
Times are changing – for the better – and it’s up to all of us to continue the conversation and see that this change comes through.
