New home for Knox Library

Knox Council has announced that the new Knox Library will move into Level 3 of the old Myer Knox department store, while also doubling in size. The new library will take up at least half of Myer’s Level 3, featuring more natural light and views over a newly designed outdoor space.

Originally the library had been set to move into Knox Ozone, above JB Hi-Fi in the old Village Cinemas space. However, once Myer closed its doors, developers were quick to snap up the opportunity to incorporate the library as part of their plans to upgrade the shopping centre, therefore giving the library a more centralised location.

The way we use libraries is changing – especially as we start to navigate this new Covid-normal world. After working from home for so long, many have started to realise the benefits of working in shared community spaces and not being so isolated. You can still work remotely without having to commute – with the flexibility of being able to come and go as you please. You’ll also be surrounded with likeminded people and have access to WiFi and the latest technologies. Burrinja offers a similar setup for local creatives.

Mayor Lisa Cooper said, ‘Knox Central is already our busiest library and the second busiest in the whole Eastern region. Being located inside Westfield Knox near two supermarkets, ALDI and Woolworths, with extended trading hours, a range of new food outlets and other complementary tenancies is a perfect position.’

One thing’s for sure – we certainly have a lot to look forward to. Stay tuned – exciting things ahead for 2022.
