CNAV Community Newspaper Conference 2019
Community newspapers gathered from around the state on Saturday 12th October to discuss publishing, the future and growth of these newspapers, as part of the annual CNAV Community Newspaper Conference.
This year’s conference was held at the York on Lilydale, with a wide range of local papers in attendance.
I was lucky to go along as part of the Ferntree Gully News team.
The conference was opened by MC Sandi Miller of the Warrandyte Diary, then with a welcoming address from CNAV President Jens-Kristian Toft Hansen (Ferntree Gully News).
Sessions for the day included:
- Information from the Victorian Electoral Commission on reporting on local government elections
- ‘Answering your Burning Questions’ (with journalist Jeanette Severs)
- ‘Online Publishing’ in the age of the 24 hour news cycle (with James Poyner of the Warrandyte Diary)
- ‘Illustrating your Point’ with cartoonist Jock Macneish OAM (Warrandyte Diary)
The day concluded with the Annual CNAV Awards Night, in which awards were presented for:
- Best Feature Article
- Best Community Content
- Best Editorial Comment
- Best Sports Reporting
- Best Article by a person 18 years or younger
- Best History story
- Best Photograph
- Best Design and Layout
- Best Newspaper
