The sun was out and there was plenty of excitement in the air, as an estimated 1500 people flocked to the Village to enjoy a day of fun and festivities for the 2013 Ferntree Gully Village Discovery Day.
It was a beautiful Spring day and the Village was abuzz, with many local traders and community groups coming together and putting on some great displays and entertainment for festival-goers.
There was face-painting, fairy floss, Discovery Day showbags from the FTG Rotary, and a sausage sizzle up at Marty’s Meats. Bands and buskers including the Soopa Doopa Bush Band, Mozza and the Upwey Country Music Club provided music through the day, and the students from FTG North Primary School also proved to be quite the entertainers!
The CFA Brigade also drew quite a crowd, with children all clambering for the chance to climb into the fire truck! The ‘Burns Table’ and other displays were quite popular as well.
Highlights also included the Fashion Parade at the Angliss Op Shop, an Art Extravaganza at the Hut Gallery, and a Petting Zoo over by the Foothills Veterinary Clinic, who were celebrating their 20th anniversary as part of the day’s festivities.
The newly launched Artisan Market in Station Street was a huge success too, with up to 40 different stalls showcasing the wonderful works of our local arts and crafts people. There were also some great finds to be found up at the Trash and Treasure Market at the Mountain District Learning Centre.
At Ferntree Gully News we were also delighted to have the chance to open our doors at the Cottage, No. 8 The Avenue, and get to say hello to a few of our readers!
By all accounts it was a great success, and a fantastic day out. Look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
